MIGHTY CAMELS CAPTURE ABU DHABI TOURNAMENT

In what proved to be an organizers dream the top two team in the A Division met up in the Abu Dhabi tournament's final game to decide a champion. In a close, fast skating, up and down, back and forth and thoroughly exciting game the Dubai Mighty Camels took top honors with a hard fought 4-3 victory over the Qatar A team. This completed a perfect 4 and 0 record for Dubai's top squad and ended a great weekend of hockey and socializing. The Dubai Mighty Camels B team were also on action and were derailed early as they lost to the eventual winners in their first game and recovered slightly to finish up with a 2 and 2 record. Great effort from all of the B Team players. Chris Young was the Camels A player of the game in the finals while Mack Irving was selected for the Camels B team. More...

League Wrap Up - Week 6

Al Mal continues to lead the way after week 6 while trouble is still rearing it's ugly in the Canucks camp. The Falcons beat the next closest opponent - the ECFT Canadians on Sunday night for their only victory of the week in their only game of the week. The Canadians however did not take long to get back into the win column as they had a tremendous first period - well by league point leader Ron Murphy - who scored a the team's first seven goals leading them to their 8-5 victory over the ever pesky Red Wings. The Wings were down 7-0 at one point but battled back to score 5 straight making it close before and empty netter finsihed the night off. The Bruins continue to cause havoc in the league both with league officials and opponents. The FKME Rangers are also looking to continue their steady play and new uniforms might be the answer. They are to arrive soon and either they will be an inspiration or their demise - time will tell. The Leafs have found some consistency and the only problem with that is that they are consistently inconsistent. The middle of the standings are tightly packed and at any time a team can move from 6th to second. With Eid break and December Holidays coming there is one more week in the schedule and who knows what teams will do before the trade deadline? Who is on the trade block? Who could possibly go from first to last or vice versa? Who will be in position for the season end bye or who will have to play the extra games to claim a championship?

Week 5 Recap - Al Mal Falcons fight hard to win another, remain unbeaten

The Bakeart Bruins tried hard and were very successful at fighting off and keeping the league's top goalscorer off the board and it wasn't even the usual culprit. No it wasn't even the ever vigilant sworn enemy of the Bruins - Ron Murphy - being shut down, but the rookie sensation Chris Young. The Bruins defensive prowess was evident on the already settled 16 goal scorer but that number was stagnant this evening. It was Young's partner in crime - Mark "le fever" Lefebvre who did the damage with only the slightest of daggers as he scored on a two man advantage with just over 2 minutes to remain in the game for a closely fought 2-1 victory. The win kept the Al Mal Falcons in first and unbeaten on the season. The late marker also prevented the Bruins form exacting any possible thoughts of turning the tables from the first meeting of these two teams that ended in shootout win for the Falcons.

The game also featured a sub-plot as experienced veteran and goalie leader Robb Gray being out played in the opposite net by the youngster and yet unproven minor league affiliate call-up, Matt Jones. "Fresh Meat" was not to be toiled with on this evening ashe stopped everything thrown at him. At the other end Gray decided to keep the game close and/or exciting by letting in two crap goals - one for each team as the goaltenders split the game between the two combatants. The first mistake by a wandering Gray turned into the games first goal by Bruce Pope while an unlucky bounce caught Gray out of position and the puck in the back of the net for the Bruins - sent there by Ghazi Attalah. That set up heroics by Lefevbre and putting to rest any rumours of knocking off the league leaders.

The Falcons are right back into action when they face off against the surging ECFT Canadians on Sunday in the night cap of the double header. The Canadians have fought their way out of the basement and now sit in second place inthe league. Good seats are still available in the upper bowl section of the Al Nasr Leisureland Ice Palace. Children under 10 are free while students recieve a 50% discount when they show a valid student card. Guest appearance and Camel for the night - Rob Hart - will be available to sign autographs. Hart is the brother or the tallest Camel, Paul Hart who is just a freak on skates.

Other league write-ups were lost in in delivery as the Emirates saw it's first rainfall of the season and disrupted the usual Camel delivery routes. Further reports available soon.

Week 4 Recap - Al Mal Falcons continue to dominate

The combination of Chris Young and Mark Lefebvre is turning out to be a lethal connection for the rest of the league as theya re working together like a well oiled machine. The teamwork is also one of the main reasons why the Falcons are not only at the top of the league but also undefeated. Even though they have won two games in shootout, the Falcons remain the last unbeaten team in the league. Parity seems to be everywhere else in the league as standings are so close that at any point the remaining five teams can move from seventh to second.

Every team gained wins over the past two week and a few of those game included blowouts. The Canucks were on the worng end of lopsided scores and will have to be more vigilant in getting players out and focusing on their defensive style. The Canadians got their offense in gear with captain Ron Murphy gathering 6 points in a win over the Canucks. A season high for points for a player. Jamie Nelson and the Leafs finally hit the win column with a blowout victory which included Nelson garnering 5 goals and 1 assist. The Red Wings were on the losing end of a shootout as they failed to score in the extra period. Captain Kyle Hyland did however finish off their game against the Bruins with 7 seconds remaining to avoid a shootout. The Bruins however did get back to their winning ways after a couple defeats by defeating the reigning champs in a hard fought battle that took over two hours to complete. As always the Canadians and the Bruins continue their rivalry. the FKME Rangers however have got to be the Jekyl and Hyde Team of the year so far as they continue to consistently play inconsistent. Last week they were involved in two high scoring affairs - winning one and being completely outplayed in the other. Captain Alain Belanger has yet to find his game legs and has resorted to playing half games while trying to find his stride and his shooting stick. There was actually almost three shooting sticks in the crowd last week but better judgement and a financial restrain came to the forefront.

Week 2 Recap - The League is upside down and rookies are on a roll

Confusion, mystery and anticipation enter the equation of trying to figure out the Dubai Mighty Camels league this year as too many questions are being returned with unexpected answers. Last years league finalist are now at the other end of the spectrum as The Leafs and the Canadians are at the bottom of the standings. the Leafs are yet to win a game (some things kinda just are so consistent however!). Ron Murphy is not leading any offensive categories with the exception of # of days equipment can stay in the trunk of your car - extremely offensive to the guys in the same room. The rookies are taking over as Chris Young, Jerome Briere and Kyle Hyland have all had at least one hat trick and are making the league veterans stand up and take notice. Luca Cima undefeated, goal against averages for some goalies over 6.00, MJP not having F bombs in his vocabulary? These are also questions that can't be explained. At least there is one goalie trend that is consistent - GoalieGray is leading half of the league in points as he has two assists entering week # 3.

For any and all aspiring sports writers out there, after your game request the game sheet and do a game recap. The only rule is that no one is off limits. So have some fun let the league and all the Camel fans know the real game stories. Stories can be linked to the home page and to the schedule page.
